Mystery of cats

Cats are common pets throughout the world.
Cats have always been a part of the human race’s cultural endeavors, right back to ancient Egypt where cats were worshipped and glorified.

Although every cat has its own personality, all cats have some characteristics that some people find endearing and others find off-putting. Cats can be inquisitive, friendly, playful, loving and independent, curious, and active or "lazy" and uninterested in exploring new things.

Domestic cats use many vocalizations for communication, including purring, trilling, hissing, growling/snarling, grunting, and several different forms of meowing. Their body language, including position of ears and tail, relaxation of the whole body, and kneading of the paws, are all indicators of mood.

Cats have excellent night vision and can see at only one-sixth the light level required for human vision.
Naturally nocturnal, cats are more active during nighttime hours than during the day.
Cats are a mystery (that’s part of what we love about them).

These amazing animals have proliferated in art over the centuries.
We can see cats in the art of such artists as:
Hieronymus Bosch , Abraham Teniers , Arthur Rackham, Pablo Picasso , Théophile Steinlen, Pierre-Auguste Renoir , David Hockney, Louis Wain, Franz Marc, Suzan Valadon , Marc Chagall , Min-Zhen,  Henriette Ronner-Knip, Bart van der Leck, Marguerite Gérard , Pierre Bonnard , Utagawa Kuniyoshi.
