Birds-symbolism in art
In Antiquity, the flight of a cluster of birds was treated as a sign from the Gods. Crows and ravens preached bad things, and swallows and storks preached good news. Birds could also herald spring. In early Christian art, bird meant 'winged soul' or spirit. The Ancient Egyptians believed that after death, the soul leaves the body in the form of a bird. A bird that escaped from its cage is sometimes treated as an allegory of that what is fleeting. Of course, many artists painted birds as an element of decoration and composition. Birds are also used in the design art.
